episcope

Definition

Using AI so that judgment gets stronger under load rather than more brittle. It does not mean using AI less. It means knowing exactly which capabilities you are choosing not to outsource, and being able to say why. The countable form is an antifragile AI use case, meaning one specific application that meets the definition.

What is at stake

The debate usually runs as more AI against less AI. This puts the question where it belongs: what happens to your judgment on the day the tool is wrong.

Where the word came from

  1. AntifragilityNassim Nicholas Taleb, Antifragile, 2012
  2. Applied to AI practiceepiscope, 2025

The evidence base for the mechanism is Wang and Zhang's pedagogical partnerships study.

How episcope came to it

Split provenance. Antifragility is Taleb's. The application to AI practice is episcope's.

What to watch for

The principle form carries the argument. The countable form, an antifragile AI use case, points at one specific application that meets the definition.
